A Little History

The first pieced quilt I made was a Double-Wedding Band. It had over 1700 pieces and my sister helped me to put it all together. We were in college. As if there wasn't enough to do already. Anyhow, I loved making it and decided to purchase a book on Quilting. Since then, I've made two more pieced quilts and am working on a third. My second quilt was a Butterfly quilt I made for my sister. It involved piecing and applique. The third quilt was a Log Cabin for my parents. This year I am working on a Stars and Hearts quilt. It takes time but is so worth it.

Why I Love Quilting

Pieced quilting brings me tremendous joy. To go from having a pile of scraps or extra fabric to creating a thing of beauty is truly wondrous. I think I inherited my love of quilting from my great-grandmother. She was an exquisite quilter. She was short like me and my mother has always said that I have a lot of characteristics similar to her (although I must admit that peanut butter and onion sandwiches have never appealed to me!). Her name started with a J and so does mine. Perhaps I knew her before I was born. Whatever the case, I love quilting. There are so many different styles. Each day I learn something new, I will try to document it. It is hard for me to leave the magazine section at the grocery store without purchasing another quilting magazine because the ideas for quilts are so thought-provoking. Maybe someday I will create my own design for a quilt. Now, wouldn't that be something!
